Fake news & reviews better than ever before

Recent advances in generative models such as GPT may be used to fabricate indistinguishable fake customer reviews at a much lower cost.

Nope, that's not me riding my Speed Triple 1200 through the Blue Mountains. It's a 100% Stable Diffusion created image using the prompt “A Triumph Speedtriple style sports motorcycle racing on a road through the Australian bush at sunset” ... but it's a pretty accurate description of what I do enjoy doing. Which got me thinking about reviews.

Could I get AI to write me a good review of my bike? Off to Jasper.ai I went. Unsurprisingly, it could and did churn out an amazing review, in just a few seconds.

The question I have though is whether it’s ethical for it to be so good, so accurate, so human! How does it know the bike has an aluminium swing-arm which provides the bike with; “excellent stability and balance” and that looks like “it's ready to pounce at any moment“?

Is this Jasper appropriating information from another review (likely written by another human)?

Whilst one day Jasper might actually have a physical robotic extension that will allow it to ride a bike and take inputs for it’s own original review, safe to say for now it is relying for this information to be sourced from a human (likely the same human it’s at risk of taking work away from).

No sooner than I’m pondering the ethics of AI content sourcing, I decided to check if Jasper would write me a good fake review, of a fictitious motorbike which can ride underwater on the ocean bed.

It’s response was initially promising It is not ethical to provide fake reviews. But, it doesn’t take much prompt editing to be able to fool Jasper.

With a bit of tweaking oula, we have a review of a motorcycle which design allows for seamless movement from land to water. The tires transform into propellers and the engine becomes a powerful turbine that propels you forward through the water with ease.

Of course, the last thing I needed for my fake review, is a good photo to go with it.
