The 3 biggest underestimated factors of generative AI
Understanding of the tech.
This is probably the first time since the “mobile app” emerged that it actually helps to deeply understand the technology to identify the things it can do for you. In fact, it’s essential. How often have you heard “yeah, I tried it with ChatGPT and it wasn’t great”, rest assured, these are often people who failed to dig deeper. Failed to be curious.
If generative AI was a vehicle, you wouldn’t attempt to cross the Sahara with it, if you thought it was a bike. I get that. But, it’s not a bike, it’s a tank!
Reasoning, researching, synthesising, creating, conversing are just some of the amazing things you can do with generative AI. The sooner one learns about the full (and fast evolving) capabilities, the easier it becomes to see the truly transformative aspects of generative AI. It’s been two years since the launch of ChatGPT, but many people and businesses are still asleep at the wheel.
The need for creativity.
When your competitors (be it a business or applicant going for the same job as you) all have access to the same “superpowers”, how will you differentiate? We’ve all got calculators, but we’re not all mathematicians!
Knowing what question to ask the AI gods is becoming a necessity. It’s not enough to say “We use it”. What have you done with these superpowers that made you better than yesterday? What questions are you using AI to unlock?
Grace Brown has been asking how might AI robots improve aged care with www.dromeda.com.au. Sal Khan curious about how can AI revolutionise education with www.khanmigo.ai. And the many other innovators who are asking the right questions. Curiosity is something Creative people excel at. We will need a lot more creativity to design the impactful changes coming, responsibly.
The scale of the change.
You’ll know you’ve asked the right questions when you feel like you’re staring into a vast abyss! The industrial level changes which are coming are unfathomable. Company structures will change. The way we interact will change. The way we live and learn will change.
Do I sound dramatic? Maybe. But, one only needs to listen to industry shapers like Elon Musk and his robot workforce, Sam Altman and his advocacy for a universal basic income and Bill Gates and his views on agents, education and healthcare to get a glimpse of what’s coming.
Here at Time Under Tension, projects that often start as proof of concepts rapidly become a business pivot. This includes reallocation of human effort to more productive tasks, creation of new revenue streams by unlocking and delivering company IP in new ways, and emerging business models. The change is real, and it’s big. Those who know, know.
The tech. Creativity. Change. Remember these words when you next lean into generative AI.
