ArtMagic - kids artwork with AI

ArtMagic is a web app that, with the magic of AI, turn any child's artwork into a cartoon.

Built as an experiment to test out the newly released Stable Diffusion img2img feature (which allows for input of an image to help guide a text-to-image generation), ArtMagic was released in September 2022. Since then it has amassed over 5,000 image generations. ArtMagic was decommissioned in December 2023.

The process is really easy. Simply upload an image from your phone (kids artwork works best), or choose from 4 preloaded examples. Type in a short description of the image (e.g. Girl holding a flower surrounded by food items), and then choose from the 4 image styles. Hit ‘Wave wand’ and ArtMagic will create four new image generations for you to choose from. Here is an example of a before and after…

We learned a lot about image prompting during this project, and also how to insert guardrails against misuse and ensure only appropriate images would be created (very important considering the audience is kids and parents).
