Dreamtweet AI image Twitter bot

Dreamtweet App ( @dreamtweetapp ) is a Twitter bot that turns Tweets into images using AI. To use it, just write a Tweet that includes the keyword "Dream", mention @dreamtweetapp and the bot post to Twitter an AI generated image back (based on the text of your tweet).

Designed as an experiment to test the potential virality, Dreamtweet was built over a weekend when the Stable Diffusion API was released. The idea we wanted to test was; if people on Twitter use the bot, and then receive images posted to their own timeline, will this then broadcast the abilities of Dreamtweet and potentially go viral?

What we learned was that; a) the image creation worked well most of the time (after some prompt engineering!), but b) the resulting images were ‘hidden’ on the timeline of the person requesting the dream. In other words, their followers did not see the image by default, they had to select and open the tweet. This makes sense in hindsight, as Twitter is avoiding flooding people’s timelines with bot replies.

Although a failed experiment in virality, Dreamtweet was a successful first project integrating the Twitter, GPT-3 and Stable Diffusion APIs.

A highlight was undoubtly when the Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame, with nearly 1 million followers on Twitter) tweeted out about the app, leaving our Heruku server in a steaming mess with hundreds and hundreds of images being generated in a few hours!

Dreamtweet App has created over 3,000 images based on tweets, you can try it out yourself here: https://twitter.com/dreamtweetapp
